Thousands of School Children Hear Message of Christ's Resurrection

Scripture Union staff and churches across the country have joined together to share the story of Jesus' death and resurrection with thousands of school children this Easter.

The presentations included facts about Easter, short talks and video clips, and a demonstration of baptism.

The Easter presentations were started by Scripture Union schools worker Wayne Dixon and Slough Baptist Church in 1994. The presentations have grown and this Easter, more than 7000 year 6 pupils heard about Easter and enjoyed a positive experience of being in a church building.

Dixon expressed his encouragement at the positive feedback the presentations have received: "This is the twelfth year I've been involved in Easter presentations, but I still love to see the excitement and buzz around the children when they're here.

"I firmly believe that if you can enjoy learning, it sticks with you and I often meet pupils who enthusiastically recount their memories of presentations years ago!"

Teachers also agree the presentations are an excellent way of introducing Easter to the pupils. "The whole experience is informative, enjoyable and accessible to pupils irrespective of their religious background," said one local teacher after taking her class to a presentation in Slough.

The Easter presentations keep on developing. In 2007, schools in Slough were offered leaflets and audio files of the presentation in foreign languages, in order to make the presentations more accessible for the increasing number of school children in the area whose first language is not English.

Scripture Union is an international mission organisation working with churches and individuals in more than 140 countries through schools work, holidays and missions, published materials and community projects.
