In the next episode of "The X-Files," an old friend from Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully's (Gillian Anderson) past reaches out to them to reveal a mysterious secret.

The synopsis and promotional photos of the upcoming installment, which is titled "This," were just recently released, and they show Mulder and Scully together on a mission. They seem to have uncovered a secret message from a past colleague of theirs named Richard Langly (Dean Haglund), who is known to be dead.

Langly was part of a famous conspiracy trio called The Lone Gunmen. They were instrumental in providing Mulder and Scully hidden information about government conspiracies. The supposed recorded message appears to have given the agents a lead in the case.

Mulder and Scully appear to be in a government facility where she is trying to enter a passcode to enter the premises. However, they get caught and are escorted somewhere else to meet with Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi). It remains to be seen what Langly's message was all about and where Mulder and Scully will head next with that information.

In a recent interview with EW, show's creator Chris Carter shared his thoughts about the recent revelation that Scully was impregnated by the Smoking Man (William B. Davis) and not Mulder.

He said, "It adds to the characters in an interesting emotional way. And because the audience is now in on this truth, and Mulder and Scully are not, these revelations are huge for this show because they're huge for the characters. Mulder and Scully's life history, both professional and personal, are the heart of the show."

It remains to be seen how Mulder will react to the new development that Scully's child is not his.

"The X-Files" season 11 episode 2 will hit the airwaves on Wednesday, Jan. 10, at 8 p.m. EST on Fox.
