"The Vampire Diaries" is ending with the current season, season 8, but that doesn't mean fans of the series will be saying good-bye to all of the characters. A crossover event with "The Originals" season 4 is currently planned, and it is now confirmed that it will take place during "The Originals" season 4 episode 8.

According to TV Line, the crossover may see Alaric (Matt Davis) move permanently as a character on "The Originals." He will be appearing on the show to deliver an important artifact to Elijah (Daniel Gillies). This may lead to the possibility of Alaric staying on "The Originals" even after "The Vampire Diaries" ends.

If he stays permanently, fans speculate that Caroline (Candice King) might be joining him. If she does, she may reunite with Klaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan). The CW has yet to confirm if Caroline is going to be a part of the main crossover event or if she is going to appear in "The Originals" season 4 at all.

How Alaric will be connected to the main plot of season 4 is still unknown. According to the report, season 4 will see Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) and an older Hope (Summer Fontana) hunt the seven werewolf packs in their effort to save the Mikaelson clan. It is possible that the relic Alaric gives Elijah will tie into this quest.

It is also he may have some connection to the two new characters being introduced in season 4. One is a werewolf and ER doctor named Keelin (Christina Moses) and the other is a "mysterious" vampire named Alistair (Neil Jackson).

TV Line reveals that this will be the fourth major crossover event in "The Originals," following the guest appearances of Tyler (Michael Trevino) in season 1 and both Matt (Zach Roerig) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) back in season 3.

"The Originals" season 4 will premiere on March 17, 2017.
