Details about Naughty Dog's "The Last of Us 2" have remained murky, up until recently when reports stated that the game now has its trademark title, which suggests that the release date is just around the corner.

Earlier last month, Gaming Bolt reported that Sony has filed a new trademark for the title "Days Gone" on Dec. 28, 2015. While it doesn't confirm anything, speculations are rife that the title could very well belong to the game's sequel, making it known as "The Last of Us 2: Days Gone."

MoviePilot explains the reason why "Days Gone" is most likely the subtitle to "The Last of Us 2." The report claims that the trademark came from Sony and not leaked information. Trademarking a title also doesn't happen by chance; it is planned, and for fans of the game, it is easy to associate the words "Days Gone" to the game's entire theme — zombie apocalypse.

If "Days Gone" is really the subtitle for the game, one can come up with theories about what the sequel has to offer.

MoviePilot mentioned that "Days Gone" will likely be a continuation of the events that took place in the previous game installment. Specifically, it will most probably focus on Ellie as she tries to make sense of everything that happened to her.

Nothing has been confirmed at this point and speculations remain as they are. There's no way of telling what's to come unless official announcements from developers are dropped.

More updates should pop up soon, but in the meantime, Naughty Dog is currently busy with wrapping up the delayed and most anticipated release of "Uncharted 4." That would also mean it might take a while before fans can get their hands on the upcoming "The Last of Us 2."
