The CW has released an extended teaser for "The Flash" season 3 which reveals several key plot points regarding the "Flashpoint" storyline that the show is going to adapt from the comic books.

During the season 2 finale, after defeating Zoom (Teddy Sears), Barry Allen, who is also known as The Flash (Grant Gustin), traveled back in time to save his mother from getting killed. However, the trailer teases that this one action will cause a ripple in history and alter the future in many ways.

The footage featured one scene that has never been shown before. It showed Barry talking to Eobard Thawne/Reverse-Flash (Matt Letscher) who explains that Barry's actions will slowly but surely erase the original timeline and all the memories that go with it.

"Your original life, your friends, your family, will fade away," Eobard tells Barry.

Other clips in the trailer reveal that Iris (Candice Patton) and Cisco (Carlos Valdes) are not Barry's friends in the new timeline. Iris does figure out that, in the original timeline, she and Barry had a strong, romantic relationship, but in the new one, they barely even know each other.

Cisco, on the other hand, is a completely different person. In the original timeline, Cisco was not rich and was working for STAR Labs. In the new timeline, however, he appears as a pompous, self-absorbed billionaire. In the trailer, Barry is also shown explaining the timelines to Cisco, and while Cisco believes the story, he does not like the fact that there is a reality where he is not rich and famous.

Director and famed comic book geek Kevin Smith had taken to Facebook to reveal that "The Flash" season 3 episodes 1 and 2 had been filmed, cut, and edited to a rough degree, and he had seen them. According to Smith, the first two episodes set the bar high for the rest of the season, and the trailer is just a hint of what's to come.

"The Flash" season 3 is scheduled to premiere on Oct. 4 on The CW.
