'The Conjuring 2' trailer reveals plot and Amityville connection

The Conjuring 2 Warner Bros. Pictures

Director James Wan and the rest of Warner Bros. Pictures recently released a new trailer during this year's WonderCon. The trailer reveals much of the new film's plot and confirms the return of Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as the paranormal experts Ed and Lorraine Warren.

As revealed in the trailer, the paranormal experts have been requested to investigate paranormal activity occuring in a house in Enfield, London. It is also stated in the first half of the trailer that this case in Enfield is being regarded as "London's Amityville," indicating that at this point the Warren's have already resolved the case in Amityville, New York.

"We knew we had to touch on their most famous case: Amityville," Wan explained in a report from Collider. "Amityville in a lot of ways dictated what the rest of the film would be. That's how we came to the Enfield case. The Enfield Case and Amityville are probably the two most documented paranormal cases in history."

Scenes in the trailer continue to reveal that Lorraine is being deeply affected by her paranormal abilities, such as a sequence in which she wakes up with a bloodied nose after receiving some sort of premonition. This sensitivity and frailness were introduced in the first film and it appears that Lorraine's strength is getting weaker by the timeline of the second film.

"The Conjuring 2" is based on the real-life Enfield Poltergeist event, which took place from 1977 to 1979. During these years the children of single mom Peggy Hodgson, Janet and Margaret, experience demonic possession and multiple cases of paranormal attacks until the Warrens were called in to handle the problem.

The Enfield Poltergeist is regarded as the Warren's second most popular case, right after the Amityville Horror, although there are conflicting testimonies regarding the events' authenticity.

"The Conjuring 2" will open in theaters this June 10.

If you look at the Church of England’s communications all that it ever seems to highlight is the good works that Christians do to improve the temporal well-being of their neighbours. It is right to highlight these things, but they are not the primary reason for the Church’s existence.
