Some pundits have been touting the Blue Jays as the clear favorites to win this series and progress to the next round of the Playoffs.
Toronto finished the regular season in style and had one of the best offensive teams in the entire league, with their home run hitting taking center stage. The Jays also have been touted to have a deeper starting rotation that can step up if things get tight and move to the latter games of the series.
The Rangers meanwhile have been criticized for having a clearly weaker bullpen than their opponents, although their supporters have pointed out that over the final stretch of the regular season they performed much better and that is no longer a problem.
But the improvement over the final month of the season does not negate the fact that the Rangers' relievers have a combined highest home run rate out of all the teams in the Playoffs this season, which should set some alarm bells ringing. Especially when you see the caliber of hitters they will be up against in the Blue Jays - things could get ugly if the Rangers are not at their absolute best.
One thing is for certain; there will be little room for errors in this shorter five game series, so it is likely that the affect of any errors than do crop up from either side will be magnified and will be far more costly. So expect a tense and high-pressured affair through this series, and whoever holds their nerve best may come out on top.
