Tesla Model X 2015 release date: Price, features expected to garner more interest

Tesla Motors will finally launch the Model X SUV by the end of the month, and the auto world will be able to witness one of the car industry's firsts – a powerful, fully-electric sport utility vehicle that has a passenger capacity and range never been seen before.

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Motors, tweeted, "With same options, Model X is $5k more than an S due to greater size & body complexity. Sig Series is fully loaded, hence high price."

This erases the impression that the SUV offering of Tesla is way too expensive. At this price point, Tesla can give more people a reason to buy into their fully-electric SUV.

CarandDriver listed some unique features of the Model X. First is the all-wheel drive platform of the vehicle, identical to what is seen in the Tesla Model S. But because of the bulk of the Model X, the front wheels have a 259-hp electric motor, while the rear wheels are powered by a 503-hp motor. Top-of-the-line choice will give drivers a 240-mile range, coming from a 90-kWH battery. What is exciting about the features of the Model X is its raw power, allowing the vehicle to hit from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds —  3.2 seconds if buyers go for the Ludicrous mode, the fastest an SUV can get to that speed in such a short time.

The exterior design of the Model X is also impressive, as photos from an Evobsession post show, very consistent with the aesthetics seen in the Model S. The rear has the Falcon wing door design that opens upward. Its grille, headlights, even taillights all have resemblance to that of the Model S. The interior of the Model X also looks like Tesla's sedan, even down to the 17-inch LED screen in the center console.

The Model X can accommodate seven adults comfortably and with the Falcon door on the rear, getting in and out of the vehicle is easy.
