"Taken" season 2 premieres Jan. 12

"Taken" season 2 gets a January kick off from NBC.

With many shows ending or taking a break this fall, NBC has announced the schedule of season and mid-season premieres that start as early as Jan. 1. Apart from "Taken," these include crime action "The Brave," family drama "This is Us," and hard-hitting series "Chicago P.D.," among others.

"Taken" is slated to come back stronger in the second season, with a 16-episode line-up, a huge jump from last season's 10.

A lot of changes are also expected after NBC decided to give the show a shift in direction to be more in line with other NBC dramas like "The Blacklist" and "Blindspot." Just a week after the first season ended, it was announced that "Person of Interest" Executive Producer Greg Plageman was replacing Alex Cary as showrunner.

A month later, NBC revealed that only Clive Standen (Bryan Mills) and Jennifer Beals (Christina Hart) will be renewed for another season. Five members of Mills' team — Gaius Charles (John), Monique Gabriela Curnen (Becca Vlasik), Michael Irby (Scott), Jose Cantillo (Dave), James Landry Hebert (Rem) — and his love interest Brooklyn Sudano (Asha Flynn), will not be coming back.

Instead, they will be replaced by "Saving Private Ryan" actor Adam Goldberg and "The Flash" star Jessica Camacho.

The TV adaptation of the successful "Taken" trilogy that stars Liam Neeson explores the life of a younger Bryan Mills. While the movie kicked off with the kidnapping of Mills' daughter in Paris, the TV series began with the murder of Mills' sister.

His chase for the killer Carlos Mejia (Romano Orzari) brought him to the attention of Office of the Director of National Intelligence, which is helmed by Hart. He gets a job at the agency but the demons never stopped haunting him. By the end of season 1, he finally exacts his revenge after shooting and killing Mejia.

What will happen to him after defying his superiors? Find out as "Taken" season 2 premieres Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, at 9 p.m. EST on NBC.
