"Switched at Birth" season 5 will be the final season for the show, and it will see Daphne (Katie Leclerc) and Bay (Vanessa Marano) come home after spending months in China. However, Daphne is going to get into serious trouble with her boyfriend, Mingo (Adam Hagenbuch), making her wish she had never returned.

The official trailer for the new season showcases Daphne and Mingo dressing up as rapper Lil Wayne for Halloween or for a random costume party. However, while they may think their costumes are fine and innocent, other people they encounter find it racist and insensitive, sparking talks that Daphne and Mingo are racists.

Problems continue to rise when Daphne uploads a photo on social media, and it quickly becomes viral as it sparks negative comments. The trailer showcases comments calling the couple racist and that they are insulting the black community to which Daphne tells Mingo that everybody now hates them.

However, dealing with hate from the public is not the only issue Daphne is shown to be dealing as she is also going to meet who her mother, Regina (Constance Marie), is going out with, a guy named Luca (Michael Galante). As it turns out, Luca is half Regina's age, and she is old enough to be his mother.

Ecumenical News points out that while Regina and Luca are comfortable with their age gap, it is still uncertain how Daphne will feel about it and how Bay would react to her biological mother going out with someone half her age. Unfortunately, the trailer does not indicate whether the girls are on board with this relationship or not.

"Switched at Birth" season 5 will premiere this Jan. 24 2017, ending a long hiatus, given that season 4 ended back in October 2015. The series will contain 10 episodes and will conclude with a special 90-minute series finale.
