The CW has recently released the trailer for the mid-season finale of the superhero action-adventure television series "Supergirl" and it gives viewers a glimpse into the evolution of Samantha (Odette Annable) as the main villain of the season, Reign.

Samantha has appeared in several episodes of "Supergirl" prior to the upcoming mid-season finale and the four-part Arrowverse crossover "Crisis on Earth-X." Gradually throughout the season, it was revealed that Samantha actually has an alter ego called Reign who, in the final moments of the first episode, appeared briefly via one of Samantha's nightmares. The villain is assumed to have super human strength which should be triggered by certain things or events.

Samantha's alter ego is very likely to make an appearance in the upcoming episode which is titled "Reign." Additionally, Annabele has apparently been doing flying lessons as shown in one of her Instagram posts which could indicate that viewers will be seeing her mid-air and being full-on Reign in the upcoming installment.

In the trailer for the mid-season finale, Samantha is shown at home with her daughter Ruby (Emma Tremblay). When Samantha temporarily turned into Ruby in the Fortress of Sanctuary, she was told that she would have no memory of the instance, which is contrary to what is seen in the trailer. Comicbook.com speculates that this could be related to what Annabele referred to as the heartbreaking part of the story she talked about in an interview earlier this year.

"What I think is really special about this storyline is it's a slow play and you'll get to see this whole heartbreaking story unfold in a really -- they're taking their time with it, and we have the time to do it," Annabele said. "I think the audience is going to hopefully relate."

The "Supergirl" season 3 mid-season finale will air on Monday, Dec. 4 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
