'Supergirl' season 2 spoilers: More Superman details revealed in new image and Tyler Hoechlin interview

Tyler Hoechlin and Melissa Benoist as Superman and Supergirl The CW

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, actor Tyler Hoechlin has shared a few new details regarding his portrayal of Clark Kent aka Superman in "Supergirl" season 2, which has moved from CBS to the CW, allowing the show to further share its cinematic universe with "The Flash," "Arrow" and "Legends of Tomorrow."

Hoechlin revealed that while they were going to honor the traditional portrayals of Superman and how he has been portrayed in the past by actors such as Christopher Reeves, Dean Cain and Henry Cavill he is going to make sure that his portrayal is not just an emulation of what they've done but something new and fresh.

The actor further revealed that his version of Superman was going to be more optimistic and not as dark and brooding as Henry cavill's portrayal is in the DCEU. This will pair up well with the optimistic and sometimes goofy portrayal Melissa Benoist does for Kara Danvers aka Supergirl.

"It's Superman as I think he was intended to be which is just an incredible symbol of hope to kids that they can do anything, that they can be good people, and that good people can triumph over evil. You don't have to be dark and brooding and always in this state of masculine toughness. He sits in that very hopeful and optimistic place that Kara tends to be in," Hoechlin explained.

Hoechlin also revealed that there wasn't any formal audition for the role. The actor had a meeting with executive producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg back in June and was told the meeting was in regards to "Supergirl" although nothing specific was mentioned. The topic of Superman being introduced to the show was brought up to which Hoechlin stated he was interested and was a fan of the series.

Several days later he received a call and was offered the role, which he immediately grabbed.

Entertainment Weekly has also released a brand new image, showcasing Superman and Supergirl together and both in costume. However, Screen Rant points out that Superman's costume is faded and looks a little worn out and this would further showcase that Superman has been around as a superhero far longer tha Supergirl.

"Supergirl" season 2 premieres this Oct. 10.
