'Super Smash Bros. 4' DLC characters update: 'Bayonetta 2' to be re-released next month before character DLC inclusion

Bayonetta 2 Nintendo of America

Nintendo had already confirmed that at least three new characters will be joining the 'Super Smash Bros. 4" brawler roster early this year. However, the gaming giant still had an ace up its sleeve, as it was recently announced that a re-release of a stand-alone title for one of the upcoming DLC characters will also come out next month.

According to a tweet from Nintendo of America, "Bayonetta 2" will come out as a re-release on Feb. 19. The way the tech giant phrased it, adding that "Get familiar with Bayonetta before taking her on in #SmashBros," it seems that the DLC addition for the "Super Smash Bros. 4" for the Umbra Witch will be unlocked during the latter weeks next month.

Meanwhile, iDigitalTimes believes that re-releasing "Bayonetta 2" before the main character making it as a playable fighter in Nintendo's smash-hit brawler is a way for the company to make up for the lukewarm release of the original.

"Bayonetta 2" was released in September 2014, and although the title got rave and positive reviews, sales were not what Nintendo expected it to be, as it was overshadowed by the roll-out of the "Super Smash Bros. 4" title which was also released at around the same time.

This time though, "Bayonetta 2" will be released as a stand-alone game (the original as released as a bundle for the Wii U) before Bayonetta herself joins "Super Smash Bros. 4." The industry follower added that this might make interests with both the Umbra Witch and her stand-alone game shoot up.

Aside from Bayonetta making it as a DLC addition to "Super Smash Bros. 4," two more characters will also be added to the roster early this year. Cloud Strife from the "Final Fantasy VII" saga had already been unlocked as a playable character, together with a new Midgar stage, and a new Chocobo hat for Mii fighters.

Joining Bayonetta for a February release as character DLC will be Corrin from "Fire Emblem Fates. The new character will be similar to how the Wii Fit Trainer and Robin the Villager characters were designed, as players can choose to play as the male or female versions of Corrin.
