During E3 this year Undead Labs unveiled "State of Decay 2," the sequel to the 2013 original. While the game is set to launch sometime in 2017 for the Xbox One and Windows 10, a report from The Bitbag now points out that the game may not be released for the Steam digital platform.
According to the report, fans of the original have taken to the official forums demanding that the game be released on Steam. The first title was released on Steam and even went under Steam's Early Access during its development and fans explain the game should be released for Steam.
However, the report points out that the game has been listed under Microsoft's "Play Anywhere" program, a system that allows gamers to play games they purchase on both Windows 10 and Xbox One with just one copy bought and allows for saved files to be transfered between platforms.
Because the game is listed on "Play Anywhere" it is speculated that the game is only going to be sold in the Microsoft Store and on the Xbox One digital play store.
The IBTimes notes that it would be a loss for Microsoft given that there are more consumers on Steam but the Microsoft Store has significantly grown in the past few years and the company may be more confident in its success. Despite this it is still a large market being cut out if Microsoft doesn't launch the game on Steam.
Fans speculate that the game might be on the Microsoft Store for an exclusive period of time before it eventually releases on Steam. Many games, such as the "Call of Duty" series, enjoy a similar exclusivity on the PS4 for a month before they are released on PC and Xbox One.
No official release date has yet been released for "State of Decay 2" but the game will be releasing in 2017.
