Stars to Join Together for Tsunami Aid Concert

A huge charity concert to raise money for the tsunami aid appeal will take place on January 22nd and 23rd in the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff.

The Live-Aid style concert is now moving forward full steam, despite time constraints, with acts such as the Manic Street Preachers, Badly Drawn Boy, Eric Clapton and Feeder now confirmed.

Grant Nicholas, lead singer of Feeder, said he wanted to play at the concert as soon as he heard about it. He said, "I was in Tokyo over New Year, but as soon as I landed in Britain on January 3rd, I had a text from the manager saying that there was a possibility of doing a gig to help out. I said straight away I'd love to and for them to put our name forward"

Other acts also confirmed are Jools Holland, Embrace, Snow Patrol and Lemar.

The Welsh, who have already donated £3.5m were encouraged by the First Minister, Rhodri Morgan, "There is so much Welsh talent available that it should not be difficult to build a programme with great audience pulling power."

It appears as though his words were correct as tickets have been selling out at a tremedous rate. 30,000 were sold in the first three hours on sale and the entire concert is expected to sell out very shortly.

Stadium manager Paul Sergeant said "We are over the moon, we have a good line-up, but this shows that people want to come together to pay their respects and mark the tsunami disaster."

It is hoped the 65,000 capacity event will raise at least £1m for the Disaster Emergency Committee, which is distributing funds to several major charities.
