It can be said that farming simulation title "Stardew Valley" is a recently released title, as the game was launched just last February 26. But barely two months after its launch, the game has already sold more than a million copies.
According to Polygon, a representative from publisher Chucklefish Games stated that as per recent count, "It's actually at 1,007,000 [copies sold] as of now." While it can be said that the numbers can be expected to be high since it came from the publisher itself, third-party reports seem to corroborate the claim, as they mention that "Stardew Valley" is one of the fastest-selling games currently.
The game is currently ranked as one of the top paid releases on Steam. Should the numbers be confirmed by SteamSpy, a third-party observer that ranks top releases on Steam, "Stardew Valley" will place in the top four of top-grossing games, after "Ark: Survival of the Fittest," "H1Z1: King of the Kill," and "Sven Co-op."
Another indication that the game would pick up eventually was hinted at when "Stardew Valley" was released. When the game launched last February, it immediately sold over 500 thousand copies in just two weeks.
Chucklefish Games couldn't ask for more and is greatly delighted that the game enjoys a huge following so far. A company representative added, "It's been really exciting for us to help bring this game to people's attention."
"Stardew Valley" is currently available on the Windows PC, and acts as a farming simulator, complete with neighbors and marriage scenarios. Creator Eric Barone continues to update the game, recently releasing a new build that improves on the marriage. Meanwhile, a number of mods are also available for the game, including one where all animals are replaced with Pokémon.
