"Star Wars" fans are sure in for a big treat, as the franchise's official website confirmed that the first of about 20 novels to be published this year will come out in September.

According to StarWars.com, "Star Wars: Aftermath" will be penned by critically-acclaimed author Chuck Wendig, whose works include several fantasy and horror novels like "Under the Empyrean Sky," "Mockingbird," and "Blackbirds."

Back in September 2014, Wendig expressed his intention of writing a "Star Wars" novel. On his Twitter account, he posted, "Dear Internet: I wanna write a licensed STAR WARS novel. Please make this happen. *squeezes Internet hard enough to make wishes fall out*"

So it seems like The Force was with him, since Lucas Books tapped the author to write the first release in "The Journey to The Force Awakens" program, which is the planned publication companion of the epic sci-fi series to tie up the loose ends that happened after the "Return of the Jedi" and before "The Force Awakens."

According to the synopsis of the upcoming novel, the second Death Star has been destroyed, and the Emperor and his trusted ally Darth Vader are believed to be dead. This results to the chaos in the entire Galactic Empire. Meanwhile, some systems across the galaxy celebrate the fall of the Empire, while others are worried about the possible implications of the changes that happened. But while the Rebel Alliance battle it out with the remaining forces of the Empire, one of the Rebel scouts find out about a secret Imperial meeting.

"Star Wars: Aftermath" will be Lucas Books' first novel under a new trilogy. It will reportedly introduce several new characters in the franchise, while mentioning one of the fan favorite characters from the movie series.

The upcoming "Star Wars" novel is slated to be released in stores on Sept. 4.
