It has been a while since the Android Lollipop was unveiled, and the 5.0.1 update for the Android OS is quite slow in coming to some smartphones. However, carriers and developers alike have been steadily building on the uptake to take advantage of the myriad features and fixes to the Lollipop version.
In Europe, the Galaxy Note 4 is upgraded straight to the Lollipop 5.0.1 update over the air. Unlocked Note 4s in South Korea and Poland can get the update by users getting connected to a Wi-Fi network, opening up Settings, and tapping on the About Device and Software Update option on the phablet.
In the U.S, the only carrier that is rolling out the 5.0.1 update at the moment is Sprint. Subscribers can also get the Lollipop update over the air, but is cautioned to have at least half of their phablet's power charged since the update is a big file.
Android's 5.0.1 update only has minor changes compared to the original Lollipop version, especially on the user interface, but is considered to be more stable and secure. However, there are few major changes and improvements on the calling feature for this latest Android operating system.
Also, the improved UI makes it possible for fluid animations, 3D views, and brightly colored themes. The Touchwiz UI also has a more brilliant look and feel, with floating action buttons. These provide easy acces to the apps' most significant features like adding a new contact or composing a new SMS message. The much overhauled lockscreen, meanwhile, has been installed with shortcuts for both phone and camera.
The build also gives precedence to priorities. Notifications such as reminders and events, or expected calls and texts from programmed contacts can be set up to sound or vibrate while other, much less important notifications are muted. The Chrome browser also gets a fix, where 5.0.1 provides easy access to Tabs right from the Recent apps page.
