Although it has been just months since Sony Mobile released the Xperia Z5 lineup, fans are already expecting the follow-up to the flagship. Speculations and rumors on the release date, specs, and features are already floating online for the much-anticipated Xperia Z6 lineup.
The latest rumors say that Sony Mobile plans to unveil at least five different iterations of the Xperia Z6 lineup, and included is a phablet dubbed the Xperia Z6 Lite.
According to Irish Examiner, there are currently two schools of thought on the upcoming release of the Xperia Z6 lineup. There are observers who believe that as part of Sony's drive for leaner production, the company will only be focusing on two premium Xperia Z6 devices this year. However, there are also industry followers who speculate that the Xperia Z6 lineup will have at least five iterations, among them is the Xperia Z6 Lite.
Vine Report said that speculations place the Xperia Z6 Lite to be the barest of all the Z6 iterations, hence the "Lite" designation. The industry follower listed the Xperia Z6 Lite as carrying a Snapdragon 650 SoC. If proven true, this makes the Z6 Lite a lightweight against other Z6 devices in terms of performance, since rumors say most of the lineup carry the newer and more powerful Snapdragon 820 chipset.
The industry follower added that when the Xperia Z6 Lite hits the market, it might retail for at least $385.
Meanwhile, Korea Portal mentioned that according to a Chinese website, the Xperia Z6 Lite will also feature a 5.0-inch display. If this rumor is also proven true, then the Xperia Z6 Lite will not be a phablet at all, and will instead bridge the display dimensions between the smaller Xperia Z6 Compact and the Xperia Z6 base model.
