Sony Xperia X Performance release date news: Xperia X to be replacement for Xperia C and Xperia M?

Xperia X Performance Sony Mobile

Fans anticipated the Xperia Z6 to be released this year. However, Sony Mobile surprised all by revealing the new Xperia X lineup, with the Xperia X Performance reportedly taking over as the flagship instead of the supposed Xperia Z6. Now, speculations suggest that Sony Mobile will also be discontinuing other current lineups like the Xperia C and Xperia M series and will have the entry-level and mid-range devices from Xperia X take over.

According to XperiaBlog, one indication of this is the delay in the release of the much-anticipated Xperia C6 Ultra. Reportedly, just like what happened with the Xperia Z6, the C series follow-up will be rebranded and released as the Xperia X Ultra.

It remains to be seen if the rumored Ultra iteration is different from the recently announced Xperia XA Ultra, which is already up for pre-orders in some regions. In the U.K., the Xperia XA Ultra is priced at roughly around $430, with ship-out dates starting on June 27.

The industry follower mentioned that the Xperia X lineup is actually in Sony Mobile's schedule roadmap, as well as the apparent discontinuation of its current lineups. Allegedly, the Xperia X iterations comprise Chapter 3 in the company's roadmap, with the lineup becoming the all-encompassing Xperia line until 2018.

As for the Xperia X offering entry-level, mid-range, and top-tier iterations, recent releases seemingly confirm what Sony Mobile has in mind. The most premium of the series, the Xperia X Performance, boasts a Snapdragon 820 processor paired with 3GB of RAM. Known for its image capture features, the new Xperia X Performance carries a 23MP main camera with phase detection autofocus and LED flash, while the selfie shooter on the front is a 13MP setup with HDR and 1080p capture support. The flagship has 32GB onboard storage, expandable to 200GB via the microSD slot.
