Atlus recently announced that their next video game, "Shin Megami Tensei 5," will arrive exclusively on the Nintendo Switch. The Japanese game studio released the first trailer for the latest entry in the "SMT" series, revealing the game's updated setting and characters.

As reported by GameSpot, "Shin Megami Tensei 5" will be released as a console exclusive title for Nintendo Switch. Atlus' decision to reserve the action role-playing game title for Nintendo's hybrid console was already expected, as the two companies already announced back in January about their collaboration.

Atlus had a live stream event earlier this week, where the first trailer for "Shin Megami Tensei 5" was revealed. Based on the trailer, the latest "SMT" installment will feature a modern Japan setting, although as expected in the game series, the video also contains a lot of bloody sequences. Fans would also need to prepare for new monsters that will be more ruthless as ever.

"Shin Megami Tensei" and Atlus' other popular game series "Persona" have many things in common, mainly due to the latter being a spin-off to the original "SMT" franchise, Engadget reported. In spite of the similarities, "Shin Megami Tensei" is known as the darker and more violent series, as "Persona" is also centered on the main characters' life as students. As for "Shin Megami Tensei 5," it is possible that some of the featured monsters in the previous "Persona" titles will also appear in the upcoming video game.

Even before the Switch venture, Nintendo and Atlus have shared quite a long history together. Before the development of "Shin Megami Tensei 5," Atlus has made the older "SMT" titles such as 2013's "Shin Megami Tensei 4" and its sequel "Shin Megami Tensei 4: Apocalypse" as Nintendo 3DS exclusive games. For now, both companies have yet to announce the exact release date for "Shin Megami Tensei 5," although more details are expected to be revealed in the coming months.
