'Scandal' season 5 plot spoilers: Elizabeth North, Rowan Pope might still be around

Scandal season 4 ABC

"Scandal" season 4 culminated with Papa Pope behind bars, and Olivia and her team's long sought-after and worked-hard-for success in bringing down the Command once and for all has finally come to pass. Although most fans would like to see Rowan rot in prison, season 5 of the series might deny them that luxury.

Actor Joe Morton, who plays the invulnerable underhanded criminal, believes that his character, should he ever attempt to disappoint Gladiators and get out of jail (which he would, most likely), will do this "fairly easily." The actor believes that despite the serious accusations, there is "something [Rowan] should be able to slip out of." But at the same time, Morton revealed why the character should accept the cruel truth of being incarcerated for good.

"But the other side of the coin is that he's spent all kinds of time, energy and money to protect Rowan, but maybe not time and effort to protect Eli. It comes to him: 'Oh, I may have messed up here. I didn't spend time to protect this particular chess piece,'" he told Entertainment Weekly. "There's probably more to tell with Rowan. My ultimate fantasy is that he will be the last man standing."

Meanwhile, "Scandal" season 5 will also continue with the aftermath of Mellie's ouster from the White House. Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Bellamy Young revealed what the future holds for her character (or at least what will become of her).

"I don't think that she can even hope that she will get back in the White House as first lady, so I think what she has to double down on is her own ability and her own belief in herself and her own road and let good living, although it may not be clean, be what wins in the end," she revealed.

On the other hand, Portia De Rossi was promoted to series regular. Her character Elizabeth North was named chief of staff, which means that fans will see more of the actress in "Scandal" season 5, which is set to premiere this fall.
