The San Antonio Spurs have experimented with a lot of players to play alongside the ageless Tim Duncan but the coming season should really be something to look forward to.
With the acquisition of LaMarcus Aldridge and David West, the Spurs no doubt boast of the best and deepest frontline the team has ever assembled.
The last time that the Spurs had this kind of awesome combo was when Duncan was paired up with David 'the Admiral' Robinson. Although nothing can perhaps beat that combo, the fact remains that the Spurs are talking about more than just two players who are proven stars as well.
In Aldridge, the Spurs have the luxury of someone who can play inside and out and strengthen the team's needs in the defensive end. Aldridge is an up and coming star and with some polishing under coach Gregg Popovich; it wouldn't be surprising if Aldridge blossomed even more.
With David West, the man just sacrificed big money to win a title. Despite being offered a hefty contract by the Pacers and some other teams, West opted for the NBA veteran's minimum salary in what many may call a surprise.
But at 34, West knows he is at the crossroads of his career. There is no telling how long he will still be around and before that happens, he wants to get what any NBA player wants the most before hanging up their jerseys — an NBA title.
Both Aldridge and West actually have that in mind and San Antonio is undoubtedly a good team to help them fulfill their wishes. The team has five NBA titles to show and they did most of that with a less star-studded team.
And with a more talent-laden lineup heading into the season, the Spurs are certainly one of the heavy favorites to figure for the NBA title.
Standing in the path of the Spurs are however the defending champion Golden State Warriors, the retooled Los Angeles Clippers, and of course the rugged Memphis Grizzlies who have their own impressive frontline to show.
