After the launch of Samsung's premium mobile devices this year, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8, the public is ready to witness the South Korean tech giant venturing into an uncharted territory. It is believed that Samsung will introduce the most radical smartphone design yet in 2018, which boasts a foldable body. Based on a recently leaked patent, the highly-anticipated Galaxy X is expected to arrive sooner than later.

As reported by Daily Mail UK, the foldable Samsung Galaxy X has been spotted at a support webpage, just weeks after the said device was allegedly certified by the South Korean industries department. The patent reveals that the Galaxy X has a model number SM-G999N0. For now, it appears that this device will be available exclusively in South Korea, as suggested by "N0" in the model number.

The patent shows that the Samsung Galaxy X will resemble the classic flip phones, but the difference is that the front panel will be composed of two screen displays. One of these displays are said to be flexible, Lets Go Digital reported.

It appears that the foldable Samsung Galaxy X smartphone will not be the only device of its kind to be unveiled next year. Rumor has it that Samsung is also working on a Galaxy tablet with the same folding mechanism. The first look at the Galaxy X is expected to happen at the Consumers Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas on January 2018.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Samsung executive Koh Dong-jin confirmed that the company is planning to release a folding handset sometime in 2018. However, Samsung would still have to make the necessary adjustments before they can come up with such foldable device. Koh mentioned that the folding handset will be included in the Galaxy Note series.

According to Forbes, Samsung's venture into the folding smartphone indicates that the company is now a step ahead of its closest rival, Apple. To note, the Cupertino-based tech giant has just begun to adapt to bezel-less OLED display, whereas Samsung has already done those with the Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones. Although, the rumored Galaxy X could still feature improvements to beat the iPhone X, like a better facial recognition technology and crystal-clear camera snaps.
