Samsung Galaxy S7 vs. iPhone 7 specs review: The battle of the sevens

Samsung's latest flagship phone, the Galaxy S7, is set to be released on March 11, and many online reviews have given it a nod. At the same time, there are numerous reports, mostly speculations and rumors, about Apple's next smartphone, the iPhone 7. With this, a side-by-side comparison is in order.

The display of Samsung's 5.1-inch phone has a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels that renders a pixel density of approximately 577 ppi. The device, which comes in black, white, gold and silver, is IP68 certified, meaning it is not only dust-proof but can also be submerged in up to 1.5 meters of water for up to 30 minutes.

The Galaxy S7 runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow topped with Samsung's TouchWiz UI. To make this possible, it is fitted with either a Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 820 processor or the company's own Exynos 8890 Octa, paired with 4 GB of RAM and either an Adreno 530 or Mali-T880 MP12 GPU. For storing apps and data, the device is equipped with either 32 GB or 64 GB of internal storage, which can be expanded to 200 GB via a microSD slot.

The huge storage space is well-matched with the Galaxy S7's 12MP primary camera that not only has touch focus, face/smile detection, and other features but also the capability to take 4K videos. The 5MP secondary camera supports dual video calls and auto HDR, among other things.

To keep everything running, the Samsung Galaxy S7 is equipped with a 3,000 mAh Li-Ion battery that supports fast charging.

For Apples next generation smartphone, it is said to still have two variants with not much of a change with regards to many of its physical attributes from its predecessor. The iPhone 7 will come with a 4.7-inch screen while the iPhone 7 Plus will have a 5.5-inch one. However, it is also rumored that camera will not be protruding, will not have a 3.5 mm headphones jack but will come instead with a Lightning port for Lightning headphones. It is also said to be thinner and will be having two speakers on the bottom instead of a single one.

Inside, it is expected to include an A10 next-gen processor, 2GB RAM for the small iPhone and 3GB RAM for the Plus model. There could also be different camera systems, single-lens and dual-lens. A third model, is said to be sporting the more advanced camera system -- more of a DSLR-quality system, as some believe.

Other set of rumors about the iPhone 7 includes wireless charging capability, a faster LTE speeds and a water-proof design.

The iPhone 7 is expected to be unveiled to the general public come September.
