At the moment, there are still only a handful of early Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge owners, so it is a little surprising that a window pops up on the very new device, prompting the owner to install a very urgent update. This was the case for an S7 user named TK, who took his recent experience to social media.
TK posted on Twitter on March 8 a screenshot of his new S7 Edge's pop-up window message that says, "Urgent new software updates are available for your device. Update your software to the latest version to prevent errors from occurring. Update details (3.32 MB): Edge Screen."
The message also says, "Downloading via your mobile network may result in additional charges. If possible, download via a Wi-Fi network instead. Your device may restart after the update."
In a way, this kind of message is a bit alarming, especially in this case in which a recently released model gives a message that says urgent. As it turns out, however, it's not as worrisome as one might think.
To a query on his post, TK answered, "they added more app support to the launcher. nothing earth shattering really. but if you used it before you now have more apps."
It also seems that the update is based on which carrier a user is subscribed to. An S7 Edge owner from France added to the original post that no notification is popping up on their phone.
The Galaxy S7 Edge is Samsung's latest flagship that was recently unveiled in Barcelona during the Mobile World Congress 2016. It is a 5.5-inch phone that comes with 4 GB of RAM, 12MP main camera and a 5MP secondary camera on the front. It also contains a 3,600 mAh battery, which is an improvement from its predecessor, bearing only a 2,600 mAh. It also offers a 1440 x 2560 screen resolution with a 534 ppi pixel density.
Processing power comes from the newly developed Snapdragon 820 with an Adreno 530 GPU or an Exynos 8890 Octa with a Mali-T880 GPU, depending on the region. Internal memory is either 32GB or 64GB and can support up to 200GB extra storage through its microSD slot.
It also offers a Quick Charge 2.0 fast battery charging that can juice up up to 60 percent in 30 minutes. It comes in Black, White, Gold and Silver.
It is expected to be available in the market today, March 11.
