Samsung Galaxy S4 and Note 2 to receive Android 5.0 Lollipop OS update

The Finnish section of Samsung.com revealed that it will deliver the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop OS even to Samsung Galaxy S4 and to Note 2. The two Samsung devices were released in 2012, which, by rule, should not be included in the roster of devices that will receive the Android OS update. Aside from  the S4 and Note 2, Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini and Galaxy Alpha are also in the waiting list of the Lollipop update.

Meanwhile, Samsung Galaxy S5, Note 4 and Note Edge will be the first devices to receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop OS update. According to French telecommunications company SFR, the Samsung Galaxy S5 will obtain the sweet Android mobile firmware as it is already rolling out in some parts of Europe, specifically in Poland. Galaxy Note 4 and Note Edge are bound to receive the update in January. Other Samsung smartphones like Galaxy S4 and Note 3 are also reported to receive the update next year. The company has not yet confirmed as to when the software will be available worldwide. The OS update will be available to international variants first and the models under the different carriers will follow suit.

According to a Samsung spokesperson, the South Korean company is still in the process of reviewing the stability of the operating system to ensure that users will obtain the best experience from their handsets. This is perhaps the reason why the company has never been one to rush when it comes to rolling out updates of the Android operating system. It usually takes months before Samsung devices receive Android OS updates.

On a related note, Google is currently rolling out the Android 5.0.1 OS update to Nexus and Google Play Edition devices. This version addresses the bugs and issues found in the previous one.  Android 5.0.2 is rumored to have arrived in Nexus 7 (2012). It is unclear if Samsung will skip to these versions of the mobile OS.
