The creators and production crew of the highly popular adult animated television series, "Rick and Morty," may have jumped the gun when they previously announced a year-end release date for the show's third season. Fans of the series have of course been waiting patiently for season 3 to finally arrive, but now that the year is about to end, a 2016 release is becoming more unlikely.

The series' showrunners, including its co-creator Dan Harmon, previously teased fans that they were going to be releasing new episodes at the end of the year. Harmon even proclaimed this to be so during the recently held Magic City Comic Con event where he mentioned that they were planning to premier the new season some time around the end of the year. With November already coming to a close, a December release is now the most likely schedule to happen if the show's creators are to keep their word.

The show's writers, including Dan Guterman, already previously revealed that they were in fact already finished with the script and that the show itself is now being animated and edited. Guterman made the revelation back in October, which means that the animation of the new episodes may be going at a very slow pace.

A Reddit user named PopDavid who identified himself as a design assistant for the studio responsible for "Rick and Morty," revealed that the new episodes will apparently not make the year-end deadline and that new episodes will likely be coming out in the early months of 2017. Through the same website, Harmon explained to fans that they are in fact going as fast as they can to finish the new episodes.

Several reports have claimed that a 2016 release for "Rick and Morty" season 3 may be unlikely at this point and that the show could be launched in early 2017 instead. Some reports have claimed that the show may return in March, keeping with Mr. Poopybutthole's promise of a 1.5-year hiatus before the series returns.
