Rick's Butter Bot, the semi-relatable robot with an existential crisis, has finally passed away, and in an unceremonious fashion, as he was killed in an accident in a product commercial short for "Rick and Morty."

In an Old Spice promotional video by "Rick and Morty," Butter Bot was seen being thrown around carelessly by three sentient giant Old Spice canisters in Morty's room. Morty kept trying to catch Butter Bot, but to no avail. The robot eventually ended up in the mouth of one of the sentient Old Spice canisters and got chewed. It is worth noting that Rick was friends with the Old Spice canisters and actually let them in Morty's room without consent just so he could advertise the brand and earn money.

During the incident, Rick counts his money, paying no heed to the trouble and chaos that his three Old Spice canister friends were causing in Morty's room, much to the latter's frustration. IGN and other news websites considered the new commercial as the end for Butter Bot. The sentient device has a large following, who even went as far as to build a fully functioning 120-pound replica of the cartoon character back in April.

For those who are unfamiliar with the character, Butter Bot was first introduced in "Rick and Morty" during episode nine, "Something Ricked This Way Comes" of season 1. In the episode, Butter Bot was created by Rick for the sole function of passing the butter. After realizing this, Butter Bot cascaded into existential despair, saddened by the mere thought of his mundane purpose.

Whether the advertisement for Old Spice is canon or will have any effect in the future seasons of the show remains to be seen. There's still a chance that Butter Bot is alive, not that it would be beneficial to him.

This also was not the first time Rick became a sell-out. A previous promotion by the show also took place where Rick burst into Morty's room in the middle of the night together with five giant sentient burger friends from Carl Jr.'s and Hardee's restaurants.
