Fans of "Reign" still have to wait a while longer before the next episode airs on The CW, but it seems like Francis' (Toby Regbo) dwindling health will greet them once season 2 returns next month.

Based on the trailer for "Reign" season 2 episode 18 titled "Reversal of Fortune," Francis is in his sick bed while his estranged wife Mary (Adelaide Kane) cries by his side. Could this mean that Nostradamus' (Rossif Sutherland) earlier prophecy about Francis' untimely death has been accurate all along?

Executive producer Laurie McCarthy talked about Francis' bleak future during her recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, saying that the health condition of the King of France will affect a lot of major characters in the show, particularly the women in his life.

"At this point in time, this reminder of what Nostradamus prophesied, this hint of death, of things to come, lights a fire under our characters — Mary, his painfully estranged wife, and his mother, Catherine de Medici (Megan Follows), foremost among them," McCarthy pointed out. "It also offers his rival, Condé (Sean Teale), the man who is currently his wife's lover, a taste of what life could be, if only the King of France were no longer in the picture."

This is also evident in the episode teaser, where Mary seems crushed while watching over her ailing husband. Still, the Queen of Scots cannot help herself but go on a power trip as she is beset with the mounting pressures of being in charge of all the kingdom's problems while her husband is sick. She even goes to the extent of calling herself king, and warns anyone who will try to go against her wishes that she will make them pay.

Catherine is also greatly affected by her son's frail condition, and naturally blames Mary and her infidelity with Condé for Francis' current situation. But could it unhinge Mary and go back to her husband?

"Reign" season 2 episode 18 returns on The CW on April 16.
