While developer Rockstar Games has yet to confirm if there is indeed a sequel to their breakaway hit "Red Dead Redemption," hardcore fans are clamoring for a second installment and are already speculating online. The latest rumors suggest that "Red Dead Redemption 2" might have two protagonists.

According to Crossmap, details supposedly leaked by a disgruntled ex-Rockstar Games employee pointed out that "Red Dead Redemption 2" will highlight the stories of two characters named Iris and Seth. In addition, there also seem to be a third, player-created character that will work as a gun-for-hire for the two.

The ex-employee also apparently let it leak that the second installment will work as a prequel and will be titled "Red Dead Redemption 2: Legends of the West."

The industry follower said that although Rockstar Games has not officially announced it yet, "Red Dead Redemption 2" is already in the works. The development team out of Rockstar San Diego reportedly started working on the sequel right after the release of the original title.

In addition, rumor has it that Rockstar Games plans to surprise fans by announcing the title at this year's E3 convention and then follow it up with a late 2016 release.

Meanwhile, Express mentioned that while Rockstar Games remains silent on the supposed upcoming installment, a new "Red Dead Redemption 2" title might indeed come out, if parent company Take-Two Interactive has its way. Reportedly, Take-Two Interactive wants the title converted into a long-term franchise, much like other popular and successful company franchises.

The report quoted Take-Two's CEO Strauss Zelnick as saying, "I pretty much know the ones that I can assure you are permanent. It's obvious that GTA is a permanent franchise as long as we keep delivering this incredible quality; it seems quite obvious that Red Dead is a permanent franchise, again with the same caveat, or Borderlands, for example, and NBA and others."
