'Red Dead Redemption 2' release date: unveiling set to happen during PlayStation Meeting?

Red Dead Redemption Rockstar Games

"Red Dead Redemption 2" is one of the most highly anticipated games that have yet to even be confirmed or revealed to the public, alongside the likes of "Half-Life 3" and "Left 4 Dead 3." However, a new rumor suggests that Rockstar Games will finally reveal the game this September, during the upcoming Playstation Meeting event.

As reported by Polygon, Sony has officially announced the Playstation Meeting will take place at the Playstation Theatre in Times Square, New York City this coming Sept. 7. The company will be revealing the Playstation Neo, also known as the PS4.5 or PS4K, a more powerful version of the regular Playstation 4 which is rumored to be more powerful and may support 4K resolution gaming.

With the unveiling of the upgraded console it is likely that a few games will be unveiled to showcase the PS4 Neo's capabilities. Industry insider Tidux hinted via Twitter that Rockstar may be revealing a new game at the Playstation Meeting and that it is more than likely going to be "Red Dead Redemption 2."

Rockstar has yet to confirm or deny the rumor but the company is working on a brand new game and it is possible that this game is "Red Dead Redemption 2." Of course, there is always the possibility they are working on a brand new "Grand Theft Auto" game or an entirely new IP.

This information first surfaced when Rockstar's publisher, Take-Two, released their fiscal report (via Mirror) revealing that the developers were hard at work on a new project which would be unveiled to the public "very soon."

The original "Red Dead Redemption" launched for both the PS3 and Xbox 360 and was the game Rockstar worked on after releasing "Grand Theft Auto IV" but before they developed "Grand Theft Auto V." Xbox One players can now play the original game as well thanks to the Xbox One Backwards Compatibility program.
