Record your Olympics experience, churches urged

Churches are being asked to use an online survey to record their experiences of outreach during the Olympics.

Thousands of churches hosted free community events and festivals during the Games.

Now they are being asked to share what they learned so that more churches can be helped to engage in major sports events in the future.

With the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and the next World Cup on the horizon, churches in Scotland and Brazil are already beginning to think about how they want to reach out.

The survey has been compiled by More Than Gold, which coordinated church outreach during London 2012.

"We’ve seen thousands of churches engaging with their communities in creative ways," said Jon Burns, UK Director of More Than Gold.

"Now we want to capture what they have learned so it can be applied when using future major sports events for mission – both in the UK and round the world."

The survey allows churches to evaluate the help they received, what went well and what didn't, and the impact of their Olympics activities.

Mr Burns added: "The survey is also designed to give insights on the numbers attending church events during the Games and their effect on both the churches involved and the communities of which they are a part."
