While AMD has yet to release a GPU that can challenge NVIDIA's Pascal-based GTX 1080, GTX 1080 Ti, and Titan Xp, reports claim it is finally releasing its Radeon RX Vega within the second quarter of this year. However, it is said that the upcoming GPU from AMD will only ship in minimal quantities once it finally arrives.

According to reports, AMD's Radeon RX Vega will only be available in less than 20,000 units. This piece of unconfirmed report is alleged to have been leaked by an industry insider, who revealed that AMD will only produce 16,000 units of the graphics card once it launches.

Reportedly, the low quantity of the graphics card to be released is primarily due to the low production of HBM2. It has been learned that, in order for the Radeon RX Vega to be fully functional, it has to be housed on a fully functional interposer, fully functional HBM2, and a fully operational GPU. Apart from the high cost in producing HBM2, it is also said that the whole process is complicated because of the technology's design; hence, the low production of the Radeon RX Vega.

While it remains unclear whether only 16,000 units of the Radeon RX Vega will be shipped, it is suspected that AMD has decided to do so because the company must have recognized the fact that releasing it in insufficient numbers may be less damaging as compared to delaying its release.

The Radeon RX Vega is expected to be one of the most promising GPUs to be released by AMD in this age. It is said to boast of intriguing new technologies that will make it a high-end gaming card. Despite its potential to be a high-end GPU, some can only wonder whether it will be the fastest as well.
