PS2 to PS4: 'Dark Cloud 2' game next on the list

When Sony announced late last year that PlayStation 4 would be able to play older games from the PS2, one of the first titles that were directly ported was "Dark Cloud." This led fans to ask the console company when they can expect "Dark Cloud 2."

Good news is that fans will not have that long to wait as it is already confirmed that "Dark Cloud 2" will be listed on the PS2-to-PS4 program by next week.

According to the latest episode of the PlayStation Blogcast, "Dark Cloud 2" will make its way to the PS4 starting January 19.

The original title released in 2002 in Japan and the following year in Western shores deals with two kids stuck in a time-warped locations. The kids have to battle their way out of random yet procedurally generated dungeons and take on an army, stopping an evil emperor from erasing past worlds. Developed by Level-5, the original "Dark Cloud 2" was released as a role-playing title with cell-shaded graphics. One unique feature of the title is that instead of characters leveling up, items and weapons are the ones that get experience points.

However, "Dark Cloud 2" was not a direct sequel to the original "Dark Cloud" but rather a unique, whole new part of the series. According to Polygon, the title was known as "Dark Chronicle" outside of the U.S., and it was unclear if Sony would be going with the original names for its ports or if the game would be listed across all territories covered by the PS2-to-PS4 feature as "Dark Cloud 2."

Meanwhile, as with other PS2-to-PS4 titles already available, the new "Dark Cloud 2" will have enhanced, 1080p graphics and unlocked Trophy achievements feature.

When "Dark Cloud 2" unlocks for the PS2-to-PS4 program next week, it will join other classics already available for the feature such as "Rogue Galaxy," "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas," and "Twisted Metal Black."
