Premier Radio Appeals for Support in National Licence Application

Premier Radio has appealed for support from their listeners and all Christians across the UK to help it secure a place as the first Christian radio station to broadcast on a national digital licence.

The broadcasting regulator, Ofcom, is currently overseeing a decision on whether to award a licence to the National Grid or Channel Four.

Premier Christian Radio is part of the National Grid's bid and is the only Christian broadcaster on either application.

If the National Grid's application is successful, the Christian radio station would be one of a number of stations able to broadcast across the UK using digital radio.

Ofcom is will take views on these applications until 15 June 2007, and as the only Christian broadcaster to be part of either of the national digital licence applications, Premier is urging Christians across the UK to show their support for the National Grid bid through the Premier website in the hope that it will win and become the first national Christian radio station in the UK.

Premier's Chief Executive, Peter Kerridge, said, "Should National Grid win this bid Christian programmes will be heard on portable radios across the nation - for the first time in UK history. The magnitude of this opportunity is huge - not just for Premier, but for the Christian voice across the UK, now and for many years to come."

Kerridge added: "Premier is just a step away from broadcasting to the whole of the UK, on a national digital platform. Your voice is needed to ensure a licence agreement that includes Christian radio."

Ofcom are accepting opinions from the public until 15 June on which organisation should be awarded the national digital licence.
