'Power Rangers' movie news and updates: New posters tease Zords

Promotional poster for the upcoming "Power Rangers" film Lionsgate

No trailer has yet been released for the upcoming "Power Rangers" movie reboot, although Lionsgate has finally given audiences a few teaser images that indicate the basic design and size of the giant Zord mechs that the titular characters will ride in.

As stated in a report from Gamespot, Lionsgate has released five movie posters and each one showcases a Power Ranger with their respective Zord. Given that this is a reboot focusing on the events from the first season of the original show, the characters will be piloting the Dinozords instead of later mechs used in the show.

Dacre Montgomery, playing the Red Ranger, will be piloting the Tyrannosaurus Dinozord. Trini, played by Becky G, will be piloting the Sabretooth Tiger Dinozord. Naomi Scott, playing the Pink Ranger, will pilot the Pterodactyl Dinozord. RJ Cyler, who plays the Blue Ranger, pilots the Triceratops Dinozord, and Ludi Lin, portraying the Black Ranger, pilots the Mastodon Zord.

The images shown do not reveal the full design of the Dinozords, but it does showcase several key aspects. All of the five Dinozords exhibit a combination of chrome and bright colors, further implying that while the movie is a gritty reboot of the franchise, it is not going to shy away from using bright colors often associated with the series.

From the images, fans can also discern the general size of each Zord since each pilot is placed right beside their mech, giving a better sense of scale. It is noted by fans that these Zords appear to be smaller than the ones from the original series, although this may still change in the final film given these are only promotional images.

It is also noted that the posters have the words "Go, Go" sprawled on them, paying tribute to the original theme song of the series.

Elizabeth Banks will star in the film as the villain Rita Repulsa, and Bryan Cranston will play the mentor of the Power Rangers, Zordon.

"Power Rangers" is scheduled to premiere in theaters on March 24, 2017.
