The BBC One series that unexpectedly garnered millions of viewers after it premiered in March last year and promised to return in Autumn '16, recently finished filming for its second season.
Poldark is set to return to screens with its Season 2 now confirmed to begin on September 4, 2016 according to The Independent.
Most importantly, as the Week confirms, the second series will be retaining Aidan Turner as Ross Poldark and Heida Reed as Elizabeth, to the delight of fans. However, love being a very complicated and multilayered thing in the series, fans must brace themselves for a lot of heartbreak as both Ross and Elizabeth find themselves entangled in a love triangle, as each is haunted by their past while hostility brews among the social elite.
The series which is a TV adaptation of Winston Graham's novels is the second such attempt after a successful 1970's Tv series. Although Aidan Turner famous for his appearance in The Hobbit, wasn't expected to be a hit with fans, he ended up winning Radio Times' TV Moment of the Year for his shirtless scene in season 1.
Much of the actor's later success has been attributed to the scene though it undoubtedly also has a lot to do with good acting skills. The director, Debbie Horsfield, according to The Week, however has put speculations to rest about more shirtless scenes from Turner saying "Autumn is very chilly in Cornwall".
The series appeared quite promising from the beginning and as early as August 15, 2015 Charlotte Moore from BBC One had announced that "Sunday night new phenomenon Poldark that has captured the nations' hearts has been commissioned for a second series."
It seems that much like the 1970's tv series Poldark is going to keep Britain and English speaking audiences worldwide gripped as viewers are taken on an adventure through Cornwall; with war, love, betrayal and heartbreak unfolding gradually.
