The Pokemon franchise has been reported to have reached a new milestone with their wide array of licensed video games, with more than 300 million units sold in its 20 year run. Pokemon's ability to stand the test of time with sparking interest and wonderment among its consumers, both new and old, is a testament to the efforts of the Pokemon Company.

In a report by Gamerant, Pokemon video games are now ranked as second in terms of most units sold. This includes 76 total video game titles, and not even including the widely popular augmented reality video game, "Pokemon GO" — since the mobile title is not under Nintendo. The reason why the series has been able to stay relevant for so long is that Nintendo constantly innovates gameplay and expands on the existing Pokemon for players to discover.

The latest games released that have also received mostly positive reviews by critics are "Pokken Tournament" for the Wii U and Switch and "Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon" for the 3DS. According to Gamespot, Pokemon video games have come a long way since its first titles on the Gameboy, "Pokemon Red" and "Pokemon Green."

Comic Book has reported that "Pokemon Red" and "Pokemon Blue" have sold the most number of units in the Pokémon video game franchise, which is estimated to be well over 31 million units sold. The information regarding how well the games have been doing gives perspective as to how profitable Pokemon is even up to now, especially since there are toys, as well as trading cards under the belt of the company.

It may excite fans to know that Nintendo is currently developing a Pokemon role-playing game. Although the details regarding this game are scarce at the moment, this is a clear sign that the gaming department of the company shows no signs of stopping when it comes to delivering new material for Pokemon fans.
