'Pokémon GO' news: Players can now catch Ditto

"Pokémon GO" has seen a few updates since the month of its release earlier this year, but these have all been parallel additions, merely updating features that already exist in the game. However, Niantic has now added Ditto to the game, the final Generation 1 non-legendary Pokémon.

As reported by Forbes, this will mark the first time that a Pokémon has been added into the game. It is an indication that the Generation 2 Pokémon from "Pokémon Gold and Silver" may be added into the game by 2017 or at least the game may now have the legendary Pokémon from Generation 1, like Zapdos and Mew.

With Ditto now included all of the Generation 1 Pokémon are now accounted for in the game, except for the legendary ones since those will only appear for specific events.

However, catching Ditto is not as simple as catching other Pokémon. The only means of catching Ditto is to catch all sorts of other Pokémon like Pidgey, Zubat, and Rattata. Only after the different random Pokémon have been caught will the game reveal that one is actually Ditto.

This is because the main ability of Ditto, even in the original games, is Transform. Ditto is known for copying the looks and abilities of other Pokémon. In "Pokémon GO," Ditto will also use this ability when placed in a Gym, copying the appearance of the first Pokémon that it fights.

If the player's Ditto is paired against another Ditto in a gym, then it will not Transform, and it will not copy any moves.

Unfortunately, this is still just one new Pokémon in a mobile game that has been out for several months. Niantic Labs and The Pokemon Company have yet to announce brand new DLC for the game such as Generation 2 Pokémon or when legendary Pokémon like Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres, will become available for regular play.
