Play Station 5 rumors news: PS4 successor to arrive in 2020 at $399?

Sony's PlayStation 4 (PS4) console is still in the middle of riding the waves of its success, reaching a strong 76.5 million units in total sales. But despite being just a little over four years old and with lots of things to offer in the future, talks of its successor, the PlayStation 5, are already making rounds on the internet.

During a recent episode of 1099's radio talk show on Sound Cloud, industrial analyst Michael Pachter expressed his views on the next generation of the popular Sony console. He predicted that if a new PlayStation would be released, it would be as early as 2020 (according to him, he guessed an earlier date but later retracted his statement).

In an article posted by Inquisitr, if the assumption that the PS5 will be released in 2020 is true, then it could mean that the product's unveiling will most likely be in 2019, and will probably be held during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), which has been the perfect event for announcements of the latest innovations in gaming.

Initial assumptions for the console's price would be at $399, which would be the same price its predecessor started at during its debut. But if the unit's graphics processing capabilities are taken into consideration, it would be no surprise if Sony decides to raise the price; they just have to keep in mind the error that they made when they launched the PS3 at $599, which was too expensive for the gaming public, thus hurting the company's sales performance.

The PlayStation 4 was a very innovative piece of equipment as it was the first of its kind to have a trackpad built into the controllers, which resulted in some games being developed exclusively for the title. So, if Sony wants to make the PS5 a truly state-of-the-art merchandise, it wouldn't hurt to check out and learn from what their rivals, the Microsoft Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, are doing right.
