A closed beta for the PlayStation 4 edition of "PlanetSide 2" commenced on Jan. 20. Sign-ups for the the beta began in December 2014, with registration details presented on the game's website.

"We'll be using this beta period to test our servers, performance, and various other aspects of the game, and we also want you to share constructive feedback on PlanetSide 2," the game's executive producer Clint Worley posted on the PlayStation blog. "How does the game look and feel? Is navigating through the menus intuitive and utilizing DualShock 4 in the best way? All players in the Closed Beta will have access to our special Beta forums, which will be the primary location for development interaction and feedback. We want the massive battles to make your heart pound and adrenaline pump, so share your thoughts with us."

As reported by GameRant, the latest update of "PlanetSide 2" will provide gameplay elements similar to what PC gamers experience. In addition, the PS4 version will also be receiving updates the same as those on the PC platform. However, PS4 and PC gamers will not be able to connect to each other in terms of online gaming sessions as they will be on different servers.

"PlanetSide 2" for the PlayStation 4 will be somewhat different when it comes to interface. As explained by GameRant, the new interface in the PS4 edition will include only the most essential features. It can be surmised that one of the biggest challenges that Sony has faced was making the gameplay as smooth as possible on the console. Since keyboards and mice require different levels of programming compared to handheld controllers, tweaking the entire gameplay for a console platform is a relatively difficult task.

The gameplay of "PlanetSide 2" is similar to that of its predecessor, with the storyline set 300 years after the discovery of Auraxis. Three factions duke it out against each other as they attempt to take control over the territorial areas of the planet. Each faction is divided into different classes of soldiers, with each one possessing a different set of weapons that are ideal in different situations, prompting players to choose different classes in order to change the odds of the battle.
