While CBS has already teased that "Person of Interest" might be returning for another run this upcoming spring, not much is known about how the turn of events will be for season 5 of the sci-fi series.

According to Parent Herald, the upcoming events will lead to more moments for Root and Shaw in future episodes. Quoting Amy Acker, who plays Root, although the new season will add close interactions between her and Sameen Shaw (Sarah Shahi), Root will continue to be torn as she struggles to juggle her relationships with both men and the Machine.

Attending a Comic-Con event, Acker said, "That's been a struggle because they are both priorities to her. At the end of last year, she ultimately had to decide that if she didn't do everything to save the Machine, there's no purpose to saving Shaw."

Aside from Shahi's character, it is also speculated that Grace Hendricks, played by Carrie Preston, will also be returning for season 5.

Meanwhile, although speculations are already floating online, a season 5 this year is not yet concrete, but CBS is positive. According to Entertainment Weekly, the thriller title that delves into events for both man and machine might be up for another run – at least that is how CBS wants it.

Speaking to reporters at the recently concluded Television Critics Association's press tour, CBS entertainment president Glenn Geller stated, "That's what we're targeting right now. [Showrunners Jonah Nolan and Greg Plageman] have planned a terrific season. Can't wait for the fans of the show to see it. It'll be a real treat for viewers."

Should the spring premiere for season 5 of "Person of Interest" push through, Crossmap predicts that the earliest that fans can expect the pilot episode to release is late March, and it might even be pushed as far as June.
