Persecution in India Continues as Police Arrest Two Christians

|TOP|Amidst persecution in India, the proclamation of the gospel continues to circulate the nation, according to a recent report by Bibles For the World’s founder Mawii Pudaite.

Pudaite said, “This is harvest time in India, and our missionaries are having the times of their lives, reaching out, sowing the seeds and harvesting souls for Christ and His kingdom."

On Friday 14 April, Good Friday, Indian police have arrested two Christian women in Madhaya Pradesh,
accusing them of “attempting to convert people by distributing pamphlets on the Bible”.

|AD|The women, Mariamma Mathew, 36, and B. Godwil, 65, were arrested after an anonymous person reported them for “explaining to people how they can have a peaceful life following Bible teachings”.

Local police sources reported that there was a state law barring religious propaganda by individuals or organisations without authorization from district officials. “The women had no such permission for their action. So they are in prison now,” added the sources.

Christian leaders said this was “only the latest in a string of such arrests,” adding, “Christians have been consistently harassed for the past two-and-half years in the state since the Bharatiya Janata Party [BJP – India’s largest political party with nationalistic and Hindu leanings] government came to power.”

Pudaite says although missionaries of Bibles for the World experience persecution, God is working even through those hardships. “One missionary was attacked and left for dead, but recovered. Three of his attackers have since come to know Christ, and this missionary had the amazing opportunity to baptise these men,” he said.
