Panasonic Lumix G9 release date, specs, price news: Camera maximizes still photography

Panasonic Lumix G9 to hit the markets in January 2018 Panasonic

Panasonic will welcome 2018 with their newest camera product, the Lumix G9. Several consumer electronics critics have already reviewed the product and most of them were impressed.

The latest addition to the Lumix G series comes with a mirrorless camera body, an 80-megapixel high-resolution mode, a micro four thirds lens system, Venus Engine 10 image processor and a 20.3-megapixel Live MOS sensor.

According to TrustedReviews, the sensor of the Lumix G9 is the same as the Lumix GH5. However, the Lumix G9 packs a better processing algorithm able to improve the dynamic range by 25 percent.

The GH series of Panasonic is known for their improvements with video footages. However, the Lumix G9 took a different approach and decided to maximize still photography with moving and still subjects.

Forbes indicated that the new camera product works well with still photography. The high-resolution mode of the Lumix G9 can capture well-detailed images. Forbes also tested the improved mode and reported that it delivered images with amazing clarity despite being zoomed in. The 6.5-stop image stabilization also works well with moving subjects.

Meanwhile, TechRadar was impressed with the image sensor and the capability of the camera to process both motion vector and angular velocity.

However, one negative element that these critics agreed on was the limitation of the ISO range. The ISO range can be expanded from 100 to 25,600. Many of the reviewers preferred a broader range to work well with the Venus processing engine.

Other specs of the Lumix G9 includes a fully articulated LCD, 1/8000 seconds shutter speed, 1,040,00 screen dots, dual storage slot and 2x focal length multiplier.

The camera features of the Lumix G9 was also well received by photographers who are now waiting for the official release of the product. The product is expected to go on sale in January 2018 with a starting price of $1699.
