After almost a year, Panasonic has finally confirmed the arrival of a new Lumix camera model. The company's latest flagship snapper, called the Lumix G9, is expected to boast the same architecture as its predecessor, although the camera is said to be more focused on its still capabilities.
As reported by The Verge, the Panasonic Lumix G9 camera will share many similarities with its predecessor, the Lumix GH5. For one, the Lumix G9 will also use the GH5's 20.3-megapixel Micro Four Thirds sensor and 5-axis mechanical image stabilization feature. With these details alone, professional users can expect that the G9 will be a great camera, given that the Lumix GH5 was well-received by the public.
If there is one improvement over the GH5 that the G9 will be sporting, that is the latter's capability to capture high-quality stills in any condition. The Lumix GH5 was also introduced as a digital camera for stills capture, but it became popular for delivering crystal-clear video quality. While the Lumix G9 is using the same image processor as the GH5, the digital camera is designed to have better stills performance than the previous model. Specifically, the G9 is among the first camera models to receive Panasonic's latest Venus processing engine, allowing the camera to take refined and high-quality images.
The Panasonic Lumix G9 camera also features a new High Resolution Mode that can develop 80MP pictures, which can be saved in both JPEG and raw file formats. This special camera mode combines eight images that were captured in quick succession, with a small sensor shifting between each image. The High Resolution Mode is best used with a tripod supporting the camera, according to Tech Radar.
The online publication reported that the Panasonic Lumix G9 will deliver shutter speeds 6.5 stops slower than the usual camera. This is made possible by the camera's new in-body image stabilization system that will guarantee the user with a sharp capture.
Costing $1,699, the Panasonic Lumix G9 camera will hit markets on January 2018.
