Pakistan builds first chapel for Christian prisoners

Pakistan has built its first ever prison chapel for Christians. The chapel is located in the maximum security prison of Adiala in Rawalpindi and was built with support from Christian organisations and the government.

The chapel was built to serve the 250 Christian’s who are currently in prison there. According to the Fides News Agency the prisoners are “satisfied and thankful for the availability of this space where they can stop to pray and meditate for hours”.

In addition it was reported that many of the prisoners “worked and collaborated in the construction of the building and that they enjoy the use of the space to renew their hearts and their spirits”.

Many of the Catholic prisoners have also started to evangelise their fellow prisoners by inviting them to pray, and by acting in solidarity with them.
