'Outlander' season 3 release date, spoilers, news: Will Brianna finally meet Jamie?

A promotional still for "Outlander" Starz official website

"Outlander" season 3 is currently in production, and it will be featuring Brianna (Sophie Skelton) a lot more than in season 2. In the previous season, she only appeared in the finale episode, but she will be playing a much larger role in the next season as she goes on and, hopefully, meet her true father, Jamie (Sam Heughan).

Back in season 2, it was discovered that Brianna's father from the United States was not her biological parent. She then discovered that Jamie was her father, and it was through her help that Claire (Caitriona Balfe) found out Jamie had survived the Battle of Culloden.

According to Release-Info, the show will premiere its third season in 2017, and it will be based primarily on the third book in Diana Gabaldon's series, "Voyager." It will take place right after Claire makes it back to 1948.

However, Starz also renewed the show straight until season 4, and this means that the story of season 3 will bleed into season 4. This means the third season may end on a cliffhanger that will not be resolved, allowing season 4 to conclude the story.

The report further states that since season 2 premiered last April, it is possible that season 3 will follow the same release pattern. The second half of season 1 also premiered in April, but its first half premiered in August. Given that season 3 is already in production, it is more likely that the third and fourth seasons will premiere in spring 2017 and 2018, respectively.

Starz has yet to announce an official release date and has yet to give a full update regarding the season's plot and spoilers. No official trailer has been released that will confirm or debunk rumors surrounding the story.

"Outlander" season 3 will star Caitriona Balfe, Sam Heughan, Tobias Menzies, and Sophie Skelton. As of writing, no additional cast members have been announced for the show.
