'Orange is the New Black' season 5 release date, plot spoilers: Laura Prepon directs an episode

Taylor Schilling as Piper Chapman in Netflix's "Orange Is the New Black" Netflix

There have been rumors that "Orange is the New Black" is not moving forward with season 5. This was debunked when Netflix confirmed the show was renewed all the way through season 7, and now, actress Laura Prepon, who plays Alex Vause, has revealed she is directing one of season 5's episodes.

Prepon posted the announcement via Twitter, showcasing a photo where she is standing together with lead actress Taylor Schilling, who plays Piper Chapman. The photo shows that while Schilling is in her costume Prepon is not, indicating this image was taken while Prepon was directing but not acting in a scene.

"Directing my beautiful co-stars. What a gift and it's not even Xmas," reads the photo's caption.

Unfortunately, Prepon did not reveal which episode she is helming nor did she showcase the title of the episode. Neither did she share any spoilers or plot details regarding the episode she is handling, not indicating on how the season 4 finale will be resolved in season 5.

The season 4 finale ended with Daya (Dascha Polanco) pointing a gun at Officer Humphrey (Michael Torpey). If she pulls the trigger it is speculated that Humphrey will be killed off and this will lead to Daya getting killed as well. If she somehow survives it is possible she will be transferred out of the show.

Rumors also suggest that either Alex or Piper could be leaving the show and that Alex might be responsible for killing off Piper. The couple has been arguing over the past seasons, despite having strong romantic ties to each other, and fans speculate that they might end up attempting to murder each other in season 5.

It should be noted that in the real life story the series is based on both Alex and Piper have survived.

No release date has yet been announced for "Orange is the New Black" season 5 although it is possibly launching in June or July 2017 based on the premiere dates of previous seasons.
