OnePlus 4 release date, specs, news: can new phone live up to expectations?

OnePlus 3, current flagship phone available OnePlus

The OnePlus 3 has been touted as one of the best smartphones of the year, and yet, there are already rumors of what kind of specs the OnePlus 4 will sport. Even if the phone is a more powerful unit, there are speculations that it will struggle because it may not top the reputation brought on by its predecessor.

According to iTech Post, the phone will have to be significantly better than the OnePlus 3 in order for it to succeed. If the OnePlus 4 is not noticeably better, then it may be ignored as consumers may not want to pay full price for a phone that is only marginally better than the last one.

This would mean that the OnePlus 4 would have to be more powerful than the likes of the iPhone 7 and the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8.

While the exact specs are still unknown it is highly rumored that the OnePlus 4 will feature 8 GB RAM and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 processor, which is yet to be released. It will also feature either a 21 MP rear camera or, as per Game N Guide, a dual camera module that features both a 16 MP shooter and an 8 MP camera.

The phone is also rumored to come with 3D Force Touch on its display, and it may include a brand new technology that reduces the bezel and hides some of the other features, like the front antennae, underneath the display. This will also increase the display size, which can be increased further if the screen curves over the edge.

Given that it is launching sometime in summer 2017, the phone is also likely to come with Android 7.0 Nougat, although it is uncertain if it will use Oxygen OS as its front-end or something else. If Google were to release an update for their mobile OS it is possible that the OnePlus 4 will get this later version if Android 7 instead.
